What is Questo?

Questo is a platform for gamified social experiences that help you spend great time with your friends and family by playing games in the real world. Blending fiction with reality, bringing together elements of escape rooms, scavenger hunts, role-playing and storytelling, the games will lead you on a themed route around the city. Players will interact with their environment and engage with the story of the game, all on their smartphone.

These city exploration games available on the Questo app are written and designed by professional content creators, companies and amateur storytellers around the world. As one of their content creators, I created a game that takes place in Stellenbosch. The game is called Failed art heist in the City of Oaks, Stellenbosch.

The narrative of the story is that you as the player are an art student who must recover stolen art sculptures stolen by a wizard. They are scattered all over Stellenbosch and you have to find them before the art exhibition starts that evening.

The quest starts at the University's Art Museum in Ryneveld Street and ends in Die Laan. In total the game covers a walking distance of 3.2km and will take players past unique statues, street art and historical buildings. Players will learn about the city's origin, historical buildings, street art the waterways and more.
