Prompt 4: Grub
My vision for this prompt from the beginning was the worms and bugs from the animation, “The Lion King”. Specifically from the scene where Timon and Pumbaa shows Simba what they typically eat in the jungle.
At first I tried to draw the “grub” on a big leaf with a crow and bee secretly peeking at them. However, as I struggled to get the angles right, I decided on drawing a sideways composition.
After determining the composition I first drew the bee sitting on the “leaf bowl”, but then my husband pointed out that the bee was looking dangerously like “grub”. He asked me if I wasn't afraid that the bird would eat the bee. So, I decided to draw the bee on the bird's back, creating the feeling that they were friends.
I also deliberately decided to draw the crow more with a blue colour than black. One reason for this was because I didn't want the crow to seem to dark or harsh. The second reason was that I only had one black pencil and the whole month of October still ahead of me. So, I tried to work sparely with the black pencil.
Story:
Mrs. Crow and Honeybee might not have the same taste in grub, but they sure like spending time together.
Honeybee: "I think I'll stick with honey, thanks."
